Um estudo de caso de aplicações de matemática na área do direito.

The central aim of this paper is to analyze and discuss the mathematical abilities required to the performance of professionals working in the area of law in the exercise of their duties, using as a research field a law office of João Pessoa city. As a basis for our Theoretical consider the works of authors such as Costa (2011); Schneps and Colmez (2014) and others. For the study was first conducted to identify the key mathematical contents demanded in office and studied in basic education. In the second step a survey was applied with first period’s students of several higher education courses in Joao Pessoa, including Law Undergraduate students, to identify their performance in related to the mathematical content identified in the initial phase. In the third phase of the study was carried out a similar survey with professionals of a law firm that was used as a research field. Based on the results obtained we discussed the importance of mathematical knowledge for the students on basic education by the guidelines of the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN), the use of mathematics as a tool to develop their potential and their competence for full exercise of citizenship. We argue in defense of insertion courses involving mathematical content in undergraduate courses in the law courses.
