Implicações de gênero no processo de escolarização: os motivos que levaram as mulheres a estudar na EJA

The objective of this monograph is to analyse and reflect upon the life trajectory of women and their gender implications for the process of schooling of these women as citizens, based on an understanding of literacy as a broad process of social insertion. But precisely, the studies have focused on the educational process of students who attend one night school and who have historically had their access to schooling restricted. Fieldwork was carried out at the Desembargador Braz Baracuhy State School. Observation and intervention in the daily life of these women was carried out by means of questionnaires, interviews and reports which revealed the implications of gender in their school life. It was possible to establish how important it is for the women to have their own space in the classroom. Our research allows us to emphasise the relations of gender, to systematize and discuss the right to education, women’s right to equality of conditions of access and permanence in the school environment, equality between the sexes and respect for these women who fulfil a triple working day, principally those women from the popular classes. When concluding this research it was possible to conclude the importance of not forgetting the contribution of Youth and Adult Education to the formation of these women as citizens.
