Contribuição para a análise da influência do fluxo veicular na severidade de acidentes em rodovias federais brasileiras

Of all terrestrial modes that make it possible to travel long distances, the road mode is usually simpler and less time necessary to implant an infrastructure and lower costs to acquire vehicles to use their roads. There are approximately 1.7 million kilometers of roads in Brazil. According to data from the National Transportation Confederation, about 61.1% of the cargo transported in the country and 50.4% of long distance passenger travel use the road mode. However, in order for a given infrastructure to fulfill its socioeconomic, in a desirable and complete way, its project must consider the possible externalities, which is the case of accidents. Thus, fighting against road accidents is a priority. As a contribution to the mitigation of road accidents, this work proposed the use of PROMETHEE II to develop a ranking of annual average daily traffic per lane in federal highways, considering as criteria the amounts of accidents with dead, injured and with material damages. As results obtained were: an increase in the flow of vehicles does not necessarily mean a growth in the number of accidents; each region has a specific behavior; concentrations of heavy and light vehicles may influence safety in the stretches.
