Os fósseis de Lestodon Gervais, 1855 (Edentata, Mylodontidae) da Coleção de Paleovertebrados do Museu Nacional/UFRJ: estudo morfológico e comparativo

Based on fossil material of the genus Lestodon Gervais, 1855 (Edentata, Mylodontidae) deposited in Paleovertebrate Collection of the Geology and Paleontology Department of Museu Nacional/UFRJ, Brazil, it is performed an osteological study, upon which each skeletal part morphology is described. So, it is extended the knowledge of the morphology of the species that occur on brazilian territory, limited up to now. With the morphologic data obtained it is discussed the validity of the genus Lestodon record to the Acre state, considered rather doubtful by us. It is also discussed the identity of the species that occur on brazilian territory, ascribed to Lestodon armatus.
