Compressibilidade unidimensional da argila cinza do Rio de Janeiro em Botafogo

This work aims at determining the compressibility characteristics of a soil subjected to consolidation caused by reduction of hydraulic pressure of a confined watertable. The equipment utilized, a hydraulic oedometer manufactured by W. Farrance Co. permitted the use of back pressure and the measurement of porewater pressure on the non-drained surface. Comparisons are made between parameters from laboratory tests and those obtained from in situ observations. A method is presented for computation of the volumetric compressibility versus effective stress logarithm from the data of the strain-effective stress logarithm curve. Such a method renders it simpler a theoretical prediction of the curve revealing the degree of sample disturbance and permitting the estimate of the overconsolidation pressure.
