Abstract
dc:descriptionThe Multiphonic Fens is a practice-based, site-specific sonic research project that generates original compositional narratives through the practice and process of field recording in the East Anglian Fens. The field recordings are transformed into unique compositions that reflect the subjective perspectives of the field recordist witnessing changes in the four traditional British seasons in the Fens. By employing an original critical-based framework that informs the qualitative research methodology, called the ‘multiphonic’, the compositions reveal anthropocentric influences on the nonhuman natural world through the environment of the contemporary Fens. The multiphonic is an original contribution to site-specific sonic study. It offers a creative and ecological lens to foster methodological and aesthetic possibilities that reposition the practice of field recording as an enmeshed artform that blurs the nature-culture divide.
