In our thesis at the beginig, we studied about the come out of Realism and Naturalism called an extension or continuation of Realism. Furthermore, we deal with the reflection of this process to literature. Realism that is called as the adaptation of the world truth, appeared after French Revolution 1789 and Industrial Revolution. Realism based on Pozitivism that bring forward knowledge can be demonstrate by experiments. Theme of Realism settled on realist things. Authors, make their knowledge with observation. Because of their works were described the ordinary events and normal people, they became the reflection of social life of that period. Determenism comprehension accepted, every events take place in cause-result relation and advocate that same reasons cause same results. They carried observational truth to another step that can be said as experimental truth. Authors of Naturalism think people are materials and a part of environment. Naturalism tend to deal with public and have the principle "Art for public". After giving place to detailed explanation of Realism and Naturalism's general properties, we studied about Emile Zola's life and the importance in literature world. In addition to that, we examine his famous novel "Germinal". We studied about Emile Zola is not only the cause of his fame as a Naturalist novelist. The effection of Naturalism in Turkish and Japanese literature took into consideration. Naturalism brought into light in France, expanded to varios countries's literarure. Naturalism appeared in Turkish literature in the period that traditional and romantic 75authors were writing their novels. That period called Servet-i Fünun. Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar was one of the important Naturalist author in that period. In the following part we studied about Naturalism in Japanese literature and the most popular writer Shimazaki Toson lived in the same years with Hüseyin Rahmi. We wrote his life and explained his carrier in literature. Furthermore, we made the comparison of Naturalism in Turkish and Japanese literature. The conditions and how Naturalistic elements were used in two countries's literature. And we tried to find the points that are similar or opposite. In the last section, we compared the use of Naturalistic elements in Hüseyin Rahmi's novel "Tebessüm-i Elem" and Shimazaki Töson's novel "Chikuma River Sketch".
