Sztuka środowiskowa jako postmodernistyczna odpowiedź na tradycję sztuki krajobrazu

Niniejsza praca analizuje ewolucję sztuki pejzażowej w sztuce europejskiej i amerykańskiej, eksponując transformacje kilku zasadniczych kwestii konceptualnych i formalnych niezbędnych do jej rozwoju. Przedstawiony problem analizowany jest w szerszej perspektywie teoretycznej, uwzględniającej historyczne, społeczne i przede wszystkim filozoficzne tło zachodzących przemian. Praca ukazuje proces rozluźnienia i ostatecznie zerwania związków sztuki prezentującej naturę z tradycją mimetyczną, którego kulminacją było powstanie sztuki środowiskowej. Sztuka ta, zrywając z tradycją artystycznego i estetycznego przedstawienia natury, sama zaczyna rozgrywać się w naturze, coraz częściej rozumianej nie jako świat przyrodniczy, lecz jako najbliższe, wysoce zurbanizowane środowisko. Sztuka taka prowadzi do zmiany rozumienia zasadniczych komponentów sytuacji artystycznej, między innymi dokładniej przeanalizowanej roli artysty. Badane zagadnienie przedstawiono w perspektywie zmian zachodzących między sztuką modernistyczną i postmodernistyczną, oraz zmieniającym się statusem estetyki, która rekompensując utratę piękna sztuki, koncentruje się na teoriach skoncentrowanych na komunikacyjnych, poznawczych aspektach, wchodzi w dziedzinę kultury i odwołując się do kategorii doświadczenia, powraca do swego pierwotnego znaczenia i rozumiana jest także jako dziedzina poznania zmysłowego. The thesis derives its assumptions from the analysis of the evolution of the landscape tradition in European and American art. It traces the onset of the genre, marks its watersheds, analyses the repercussions of the final stages of its development, namely environmental art. The problem is couched in a wider theoretical perspective, presenting historical, social and primarily philosophical background. The thesis examines the process in which landscape art has been loosening and finally severed its relations with the mimetic tradition, culminating it the formation of environmental art, which not only forgoes the notion of artistic and aesthetic representation of nature, but also actively moves into its domain. The phenomena of environmental art makes traditional, clear-cut distinction between culture and nature problematic and results in a radical dislocation of the locus of presentation of such art. The determinations concerning the evolution of landscape art are presented on the backdrop of transformations occurring in contemporary art and aesthetics. To “make up” for the vanishing beauty of art, such aesthetics introduces theories that underscore the cognitive, communicational and worldview aspects of art instead of its beauty and thus aesthetics enters not only into the domain of culture, but also nature, now conceived as a domain of sensory cognition.
