Abstract

W pracy zostały użyte m.in. raporty trąb powietrznych z ostatnich 200 lat, dane z systemu detekcji wyładowań atmosferycznych PERUN, naziemne pomiary meteorologiczne, sondowania atmosferyczne oraz numeryczne modele pogody. Main aim of this work was to analyze the climatology of thunderstorms and tornadoes in Poland. Mechanisms responsible for the tornado formation as well as their forecasting possibilities are also discussed. Tornado reports from the last 200 years, PERUN lightning detection data, surface meteorological observations, atmospheric soundings and numerical weather prediction data are being used in this analysis. Poland is vulnerable to the occurrence of severe thunderstorms including tornadoes up to F4 in Fujita scale. These phenomena occurred in Poland regularly over the course of the last 200 years. Currently, each year around 10 tornadoes and 150 days with thunderstorms are observed in Poland. They are the most frequent from May to August and peaks in July, most often in the late afternoon hours. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are the most prone to occur in south-central and central-eastern Poland (a belt from Kraków-Częstochowa Upland to Mazovian Lowland). Within the use of numerical weather prediction data it is possible to predict environmental conditions conducive to the tornado occurrence, and provide this information to the public several hours before the event.
