A study of the hypertension-related knowledge, awareness and health behavior among hypertensive patients of Cambodian

dc:descriptionPURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among knowledge, awareness and health behavior of the patients with hypertension in Cambodia. METHODS: A cross – sectional correlation descriptive survey was done with the 180 hypertensive patients in the two urban areas in Cambodia. Close end questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS version 17. RESULT: The mean score of knowledge about hypertension was 10.01±1.90, that of awareness about hypertension 3.71±1.36 and that of health behavior 2.24±0.24 among the subjects. Data showed the positive correlation between knowledge and health behavior, knowledge and awareness, and health behavior and awareness. There were significant difference among sex, marital status, age, occupation and living with whom in the level of knowledge about hypertension. The level of awareness about hypertension was sex, income, blood pressure, BMI and education. And there were significant difference among in the level of health behavior was in sex, region, income, education and occupation related to hypertension. CONCLUSION: The findings would provide the hypertensive patients with education and intervention programs on health behavior from the physician and health care policy for health behavior as well.
