A study of oral health care for the children with genetic disorder and chromosomal abnormalities

This study was performed to prepare the references of oral hygiene management for the children with Down's Syndrome and Angelman Syndrome. Thirty five caregivers of the children was answered about children`s characteristics, oral health condition and management, socio-economic status of the caregivers. The collected data were analyzed by Fisher's exact test via SPSS 15.0 program to verify the difference in oral health behaviors according to the mother’s employment status. In addition, it was analyzed having significant test result the level of 0.05 and the result is as below. 1. Among the children with genetic disorder, 77.2% of them were found that the average frequency of tooth-brushing and the snack intake per day were two times and 2.14 times respectively. 92.4% of the respondents brushed their teeth less than 3 minutes and 77.1% of them did not use oral hygiene products. 2. 71.4% of that respondents went to dental clinic for dental check-up. 57.8% of respondents was hard to get the dental treatment because of their children`s disabilities. 3. The usage frequency of supplemental oral hygiene products was much higher among the employed mothers(p<.05).
