Immunhistochemische Untersuchung des Brustkrebsmarkers Mammaglobin an menschlichen Endometrioseproben
Abstract
dc:descriptionMammaglobin was identified by Watson and Fleming in 1996 and they postulated its exclusive mammary tissue specifity. In normal breast tissue mammaglobin is highly expressed, but not in all cases. In the meantime mammaglobin was also abundantly expressed in human tumors from various organs and their matching normal tissues. Any organ specifity can not be identified. The results of the presently study disprove the validity thesis from Watson and Fleming. In addition mammaglobin was found in normal endometrium as the results from various studies showed. The reaction from endometriosis tissue relating to the mammaglobin expression seemed to be the same as in case of normal endometrium. Especially the expression is shown in secretory cells just like in normal endometrium tissue. All in all 15 from 52 endometriosis tissues showed a positive mammaglobin expression (29%). Generally the mammaglobin expression in endometrial carcinoma is more pronounced. 12 from 29 specimens were up-regulated (41%). The clinical utility of mammaglobin as a diagnosic marker in endometriosis is questionable. Mammaglobin expression alone is not specific enough. The results of various studies show that mammaglobin is not only specific for breast carcinoma, because it is also variably expressed in nonneoplastic and neoplastic tissues. But a certain organspecifity is given, which supports the clinical utility of this marker in the diagnosis of nonspecific lymphnodemetastatic. Mammaglobin may be a promising diagnostic marker in gynecologic malignancies.
