Kontaktwinkelmessung an bovinem Zahnschmelz vor und nach der Behandlung mit kariesprophylaktischen Materialien und Methoden

dc:descriptionIn this study several materials and methods of caries prophylaxis were tested with contact angle measurement. The aim of the present study was to see, if there is any effect on the enamel surface after the caries prophylactic treatments. We used bovine incisors for contact angle measurement, embedded in light hardening polymer. 80 incisors were selected and measured without treatment. Afterwards ever 10 were treated with the following materials and methods: Amine and sodium fluoride (each for 3 min), olive oil, xylitol (40 percent for 24h), argon laser irradiation. The group with argon laser was divided into two, first with a laser irradiation at 12,5 J/cm² and second with an irradiation at 25 J/cm². There was statistical significance in 6 of the 7 measurements. Only the xylitol group had no statistical significance (contact angle before and after treatment had no difference: before 54,02 SD 6,37°; after 53,38° SD 5,18°; p=0,4557). The contact angle of both fluorides was smaller after the treatment, which means, that there was a bigger moistening (amine fluoride: before 50,8° SD4,47; after 21,45° SD 3,69 p<0,0001; sodium fluoride: before 55,78° SD 9,19°; after 26,37° SD 11,23° p=0,0002) In the olive oil group was, as supposed, a bigger contact angle after the treatment (before: 51,14° SD 7,66°; after 69,13° SD 5,66° p<0,0001). In the last group, the bovine incisors were irradiated with argon laser (Premier Laser Systems; type AragoTM).The irradiation time were 13 and 26 seconds. The contact angle after the treatment was bigger than before (48,6° SD 4,26° before; 59,6° SD 5,95° after, p=0,0008) This statistical significant difference was an interesting result, because there was less moistening on the tooth surface. Theoretical this could mean that there would also be less plaque accumulation on a tooth surface after argon laser irradiation. This could be the approach for a following in vivo study, which analyses the plaque accumulation. After the irradiation for 26 seconds, there was no bigger effect on the tooth surface (before: 52,2° SD 7,21°; after 61,2° SD 6,77°).
