Several dose-reduction strategies were evaluated in this work by phantom- and patient studies.1. The tube-current-modulation system "CareDose 4D" (Siemens Medical Solutions, Forchheim, Germany) enabled a reduction of effective dosage of 56,1% up to 70,1%, depending on the orientation of the scanogram used, while image noise was elevated in turn.2. By applying a bismuth shielding, the exposure of the thyroid gland could be reduced by 31,3%, while the exposure of the female breast was reduced by 31,9%. By using a cotton spacer image quality could be improved substancially.3. In coronary artery calcium scoring, a low tube current protocoll allowed a dose reduction of 57% without impairement of accuracy or reproducibility compared to the standard protocol. The mass score showed the highest accuracy and reproducibility.4. By using gonad shielding, the testicular dose could be reduced by 87% in abdominal scans without an impairement of image quality.
