Die EU-Entwicklungspolitik zwischen Anspruch und Realität : Europas Verantwortung für den afrikanischen Kontinent
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe European Union has recently been enlarged to an international community of 25 members. In the course of the last decades, it has been endowed with a growing number of skills and rights and remotes now far away from its early role which was to be an Economic Community. It is now actively involved in the settlement of international problems. This conception of a European Union as a global player firstly comes from its undeniable influence on the commercial policy. The international developments of the previous years have also shown the European protagonists that a strong Europe has the capacity to and has it as its duty to enter into a reinforced common foreign policy. The thesis of this work is that an expectation ensued from this conception; this expectation has long not been appreciated for its true worth. Most of the time, there is a clear gap between the expressed requirements and the political facts. This work deals with this capability-expectation-gap taking the common European development policy into account. The aim focuses much more on highlighting the gap between requirements and facts within specific domains than on analysing the European development policy. Since the European Union still intends to prioritize the African continent regarding its development policy, this work puts the spotlight on the development cooperation with this region.
