Anwendungen der NMR-MOUSE in Prozesstechnik, Materialforschung und Medizin

With the use of the NMR-MOUSE (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance – Mobile Universal Surface Explorer), a small, mobile magnetic resonance sensor, by which the information typically contained in one pixel of an NMR image, information can be collected either in situ or ex situ. This dissertation reveals new applications of the NMR-MOUSE in different fields of interest like in material science as a detection tool or in medicine as a diagnostic tool. In the field of material science the modulus of a polymer can be measured indirectly by measuring the relaxation time. For this purpose once a calibration is needed and then the measurement of the modulus via relaxation time gives the information non destructively and in a short time. This method shows good first results but it have to be improved in the future. Furthermore the NMR-MOUSE can be used to get information about the moisture distribution in different materials. In correspondence to SPI-experiments NMR-MOUSE measurements offer the chance to monitor the moisture content during a drying process of granulates. This dissertation shows a new method and a mobile prototype for the online moisture measurements with different samples. Next this thesis shows, that the NMR-MOUSE is a sophisticated tool for quality control tests after production. Here several silicone breast implants were investigated by using a Profile-MOUSE. The measurements demonstrate that it is possible both to reveal the different layers of the implant shell and to detect a contamination of the silicone gel with lipids. The last section of this dissertation shows a very new application in the field of diagnostic medicine. Here the profile of the human skin is investigated using the Profile-MOUSE. The goal of this work is to get information about the skin layers of healthy and burned skin to make some forecasts in how far the therapy should go on. This method is non destructive, radiation free and contact free, so that there are no difficulties for the patients. Furthermore the cost of this technique is much lower than the standard procedures. Last but not least I can say, that it was possible to find several new applications for the mobile NMR, especially the NMR-MOUSE. This dissertation shows applications in the fields of material science, industrial research and medicine.
