Künstliche Intelligenz und die Rationalität gesellschaftlichen Handelns
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn the attempt to reproduce intelligence artificially one is obliged to reconstruct its inner logic precisely. This is the departure point of the cognitive sciences which are based on Logical Positivism. The latter claims that only knowledge that can be described by way of precise scientific languages is considered rational. In contrast to that, hermeneutics maintain that the scientific language ia a derivative itself and represents merely a limited concept of rationality. The philosophical framework of this dissertation is marked by the question of understanding of meaning, the problem of body-soul and the opposition of scientism and hermeneutics. The following questions are under consideration: 1. Which philosophically important questions arise from the asserted claim of Artificial Intelligence to be able to reproduce the human mind? 2. How can Artificial Intelligence be classified within the project of modernity? 3. Which are the underlying principles on a epistomological and the technical pretensions? 4. How can – bearing in mind the previous discussion – the project of Artificial Intelligence be evaluated? 5. Which social problems result from the development and the operation of more and more intelligent machines? The conclusion of this dissertation is that human intelligence primarily involves a dimension of intersubjective communication that encompasses all validity aspects of meaningful expressions. The representation of propositional knowledge, on the other hand, just denotes a narrow section. In order to be able to reproduce the human mind with technical means the respective systems must succeed in establishing a normative reference to the social world – in addition to the reference to the objective factual world – and at the same time a reference to the world of subjective and self-reflexive experience. The impossibility of artificial intelligence is not contended as the ultimate consequence, the obstacles in view of its realization, however, will be discernible.
