Konzepte zur Wasserversorgung und Abwasserentsorgung für verschiedene Siedlungsstrukturen in China

Abstract

dc:description

Many regions in P. R. China are being threatened by critical water shortages. Furthermore, there are no adequate and orderly infrastructure systems for the supply and distribution of potable water, as well as the treatment of the municipal wastewater. The discharge of untreated wastewater into waterbodies has contributed to a rapid deterioration of water quality, which has exacerbated the already present problem of water shortage. This thesis is aimed to resolve these problems by applying sustainable concepts of Water Supply and Sewage Disposal systems, which are especially developed for the regions with a water shortage in P. R. China. Here, in consideration of the characteristics of different regional structures in China and the application of the water technologies, which have been successfully tested in Europe, various concepts are developed respectively for sparsely populated areas, densely populated areas, and small residential areas. The sustainability of the concepts are identified by comparing the developed alternative concepts with a reference concept for the economical and ecological as well as social criterions in each regional structure and evaluation. The reference concept represents a conventional water supply and sewage disposal system. Results from the economical evaluation showed that the alternative concepts for sparsely populated areas and small residential areas are more advantageous than the reference concept, especially when the system serves fewer people, or the served area lies far away from central waste and water water treatment plants. As for the selected ecological criterion, the alternative concepts are also favourably evaluated. The alternative concept for the densely populated area has also showed economical and ecological advantages over the reference concept, in the case where no sufficient local water resource is available. All the alternative concepts however, have no distinct advantage over the conventional concept for the social criterion. In conclusion, the economical and organisational as well as institutional conditions, which are necessary for implementing the developed concepts in China, are discussed. It is expected that the developed sustainable concepts of water supply and sewage disposal systems could be realised in China in 20 years if these necessary conditions could be achieved.
