Biosensoren auf der Basis von Halbleiter-Feldeffektstrukturen mit angekoppelten Insektenantennen

dc:descriptionThe main goal of this work was the realization of a biosensor for the detection of small concentrations of organic odor substances by means of coupling an insect antenna to a field-effect transistor. A sensor concept based on a BioFET (biologically sensitive field-effect transistor) was developed, where an insect antenna is coupled to the FET gate by means of an electrolyte solution (bioelectronic interface). The electric potential generated in the antenna upon detecting a certain odor are measured by the FET. The FETs were fabricated by means of silicon planar technology and characterized with respect to their electrical properties. Meander-shaped gates were found to be most suitable for signal transduction. The insect antennae were electrically characterized by means of impedance spectroscopy. It could be shown that the impedance varies with the odor concentration as well as the bias voltage and the age of the antenna. The odor detection measurements themselves were performed with different insect species (potato beetle, steelblue jewel beetle, spodoptera littoralis, diabrotica undecimpunctata) as well as odor substances (cis-3-hexen-1-ol, guaiacol, 1-octen). Depending on the insect species, odor concentrations could be reproducably detected down to the low ppt-range. In measurements in a glasshouse under real-world conditions, the suitability of the sensor for the detection of plant damages in agriculture could be demonstrated.
