Die Geräuschqualität bei der Anfahrt elektrischer Schienenfahrzeuge

dc:descriptionIn recent years, sound quality has been established as important field of research. Many publications are focused on the evaluation of sounds, i.e. by means of listening tests or instrumental quantities. A deeper understanding of technical effects, however, is also necessary in this context, since technical parameters are the "screws" in order to obtain a sound that fits best to a product. Hence, a successful optimisation of sound quality requires a systematic dialogue between product developers and psychoacousticians, but this seems to be well developed only in a few fields of research, e.g. in automotive industry. In this work, a rather unknown type of sound was chosen in order to demonstrate the sensitive links between sound generation and sound quality. First, the necessary "tools" are summarised, pointing out some essential aspects about listening tests, psychoacoustic quantities, modelling of typical sound-producing elements, and parameter studies. The largest part of this work focuses on the chosen application, i.e. the sound of electric railbound vehicles. Some noise components often play an important role especially during the starting procedure, and among them, one can point out the motor in connection with the traction converter as well as the gear coupling. First, the generation of the sounds is analysed extensively. This is necessary because such an overview could not be found in literature and special effects of machine acoustics have to be taken into account. Afterwards, it is investigated how the sounds are perceived by man and which psychoacoustic quantities are suitable in order to evaluate this type of noise. Concerning tonality, a product-dependent computation method is proposed as well as the relationship between roughness and consonance is highlighted. Furthermore, a sound-synthesis model is presented, which is able to reproduce the sounds, and which allows a variation of the most important technical pa! rameters . Finally, two examples of parameter variation are presented. First, the gear teeth number is varied in the sound-synthesis model. It is shown that the pleasantness of the sounds is indeed dependent on this parameter, which is obviously caused by consonance. Second, different types of switching-frequency variation in the phase of pulse-width modulation are investigated, which are also judged quite differently. To conclude, this work should contribute to the actual discussion about sound quality, and it is also useful for manufacturers and operators of electric railbound vehicles since the acoustic optimisation potential of their products is demonstrated.
