Abstract
dc:descriptionChangeability is becoming the key target for the design of factories and production systems. Therefore, a large number of approaches for the changeable design of the resources, processes and organisation of the factory are currently under discussion and partially have already been implemented successfully.But it has been proven that too much changeability can also lead to problems. In this case, the production is in a constant state of reconfiguration and does not reach a state of stable operation. This complicates a continuous optimisation of the processes and the development of a sustainable core competence. Additionally, a production designed for a high degree of changeability often requires a higher investment and is less efficient.Therefore, a theory (or paradigm) is needed that allows a systematic identification of the required degree of changeability and simultaneously can serve as the overall framework for a design of the individual parts of the production to suit different degrees of changeability. Quite similarly, software engineering is faced with the challenge to cope with rapidly changing requirements in a highly dynamic application environment. In this case, the reconfiguration is to be limited to certain parts of the software to ensure the stability of the system and a minimisation of the reengineering effort. In this context, the object oriented paradigm has established itself as an acknowledged standard and as a basis for a multitude of design approaches.In this thesis, the principle of object orientation was transferred to the field of factory design and a theory of an object-oriented factory design was developed on the basis of successful software engineering methods and concepts (e.g. Unified Modelling Language, Rational Unified Process).
