Streßverarbeitung und Selbstaufmerksamkeit bei Patienten mit erektiler Dysfunktion psychischer Genese
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis dissertation is part of a comprehensive study about erectile dysfunction of psychic origin which was accomplished by the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy in cooperation with the Department of Urology at the RWTH Aachen. Between July 1992 and August 1995 120 patients who came to a common consulting clinic of the Departments of Urology and Psychosomatic Medicine with erectile dysfunction of psychic origin were asked to fill out questionnaires, one about stress coping strategies and another about self-consciousness . The results of these questionnaires were the basis of this dissertation. These results demonstrate that patients with erectile dysfunction of psychic origin exhibit other stress coping strategies than "normal individuals". They tend to rather useless forms of stress coping and rarely practice effective stress coping strategies. Additionally, these men use drugs more frequently to cope with stress. They were also found to have a higher public self consciousness than "normal individuals" and show great interest into their effect on other people. Their private self consciousness, however, which is an index for their degree of introversion, is not different to "normal individuals". No correlation could be demonstrated between their kind of self consciousness and their kind of stress coping strategies. Also the patient's age and the duration of symptoms did not influence these parameters significantly.
