In-vitro-Studie zur laserinduzierten Fluoreszenz von Karies
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn this study, the laser induced fluorescence of caries was examined. The fluorecence of caries was compared with the fluorescence of other substances which are also found in the oral cavity. The caries fluorescence can be medically used for the detection of apparent and hidden caries lesions. A technical implemenation of this effect can be found in the laser fluorecence device DIAGNOdent which excites light with a wavelength of 655 nm measuring at the same time the fluorescence level. In this study, several theeth with caries lesions were collected. Then the caries probes were homogenized by an ultrasound homogenisator in 0,9% NaCl as solvent that was tested negative for fluorescence behaviour. Then the caries solution was examined in a fluorecence spectrophotometer. The probes showed fluorescence behaviour which is graphically described in this study. In principal, the graphs show the optical excitation band up to 750 nm including the excitation light, scattered light, and fluorescence characteristics. A fluorescence shoulder was shown at 756 nm. The fluorescence peaks appeared at 816 nm - 818 nm and 869 nm - 873 nm. The fluorescence intensity of the probes varied because of different parts of fluorescence substances in the probes. Furthermore the fluorescence behaviour of protoporphyrin IX, metabolism product of several bacteria, was examined. Chemically similar substances like hemoglobine, bilirubin and blood were also testet. These materials showed the shoulder at 756 nm and the peak at 818 nm. Thus it appears that the materials can influence the fluorscence of caries because of the spectra similarity. In this study, it is not evident which substances are mainly responsible for the fluorescence of caries, because of the unknown parts of the substances in the different caries probes. Other materials like plaque, calculus, enamel, and salivar, which appear also in the oral cavitiy, were examined. These spectra corresponded essentially with the caries spectra showing further peaks. This study shows the similarity of the different fluorescence spectra. So ist is possible that the substances existing in the oral cavity can influence the measuring of caries fuorescence.
