Vorstellungen von Gott - wie wir fremde Kulturen verstehen

This paper is meant to verify two different things: What ideas do people connect consciously or nonconsciously with god, the church and questions of faith? Can we, really understand the testimonials of different civilizations and of course those of our own culture and can we classify them properly and what do we know and where does this knowledge come from. The initial thoughts were epistemological reflections on philosophical reasoning in different times and civilizations about the origin of the world and on the combination of causes, perceptions, ideas and conclusions. The research based on these considerations is structured in three parts 1. Surveys among different groups of people aiming at recognition of their knowledge and attitudes. 2. Tests with a method of the social psychology to find out the conscious and unconscious images, people connect with written and artistic testimonials from different civilizations and different ages. 3. Associative tests to verify if and how far people are able to classify images and texts of different times and civilizations and to feel social and cultural change in comparison to the views of distant times. The paper is based on the hypothesis that people of the same frame of mind feel the same regardless of cultural influences and so they have a general understanding especially for theological and philosophical matters that depends not only on the educational level or age. In total far more than 2000 persons in Germany und Austria were questioned and tested. Representativity and Significance were checked with the appropriate methods.
