Untersuchungen zur Reaktion des Immunsystems von Kindern auf Kfz- und Flugverkehr im deutsch-niederländischen Grenzraum
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn the region of the german-dutch border effects of road- and air traffic on the health of the population living near the NATO-airport Teverener Heide were examined. Altogether 364 children from Heinsberg (FRG), Geilenkirchen (FRG), Schinveld (Netherlands) and the reference are as Waldfeucht and Selfkant (FRG) were involved in the survey presented here. Geilenkirchen was assumed to be contaminated by road- and air traffic, Schinveld by air traffic and Heinsberg by road traffic only. As part of Biological Monitoring the toxicity of the internal body , as part of Biological Effect Monitoring parameters of the human immune defense (IgG, IgM, IgA,IgE, C3, C4) were determined quantitatively. In the area of Geilenkirchen the adjusted geometric mean of IgG was significantly lower than in the reference region. In Schinveld the adjusted geometric mean of IgA was significantly higher than in the reference area. Concerning the parameters IgG, IgE, C3 and C4 no significant effects of the location in particular were found. Whether Indoor Air Polution or the higher concentration of Toluol found in the blood of the dutch children using Biological Monitoring are responsible for higher IgA-concentrations found needs to be further investigated.
